Fun funky household items

Readers of this blog know I have an affinity for almost everything Fred puts out and lucky me (unlucky my wallet) they just added a bunch of awesome new products to their site!

Loose Leaf

“Loose Leaf looks like it wafted out of the sky and flitted to your entryway. But looks can deceive – it’s actually a very reliable and practical doorstop, as functional as it is evocative! Each Loose Leaf is packaged on a durable, peggable chipboard backing card.”

I love this incorporation of an organic shape with a practical house hold item. Besides, who doesnt want to add a little more nature to their house?

M-Cups

“This set of 6 dry-measure cups nests neatly just like traditional Russian matryoshkas. They accurately measure 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, 2/3, 3/4 and 1 full cup, and they’re built from heavy-duty, food-safe, long-life engineering plastics. M-Cups are useful, easy to store, and quite charming…so why not doll up YOUR kitchen with a little Russian folklore?”

Besides the obviousness that these are adorable measuring cups that dont look like measuring cups, what I love is that these are so cute you could keep them out in the open on your counter.

INSET

“These sleek and stylish salad servers are two of a kind – they nestle perfectly together for presentation and storage. They’re crafted from high-quality stainless steel with a fine brushed finish. The creation of renowned German designer Judith Hoefel, InSet is designed to love and built to last.”

Ah you sleek minimalist Germans, of course you would manage to so effortlessly remake salad servers! The best part about this is not only do I want it in my kitchen but I know this is something my mom would love…its both fun, practical and chic.

Now if you will excuse me, Ive got some online shopping to do.

Lego home decor

Earlier Katie posted an awesome blog about Lego ceramics (I want them so bad!). But until these get distribution theres a few ways you can enjoy some DIY Lego home decor right now.

Lego Kitchen Crafts

A napkin holder, utensil holder, fruit basket and more. All of these can be yours with a little time with some bricks.

Lego Planter

When Bob of The Bob Blog found out a that some planters he wanted were a little out of his price range he did what anyone else would do….build them out of legos.

A Lego Desk

This 120 lb desk is made entirely of Legos. Apparently he had to buy special edition pieces to make the drawers slide. Oh and he also built a fully functioning Lego grandfather clock

Lego CEO Desk

Ok so Im cheating on this one since it isnt made out of Legos and you have to buy it…buy its just so darn cool! The Swedish designers describe the desk as such…

“…a desk for a powerful person that reflects on a glimpse of the lost childhood, when life was easier and freer.”

I wouldnt mind having any of these in my apartment!

Dream-Scape Design Spaces

Earlier today my good friend SuperJenn forwarded me the most amazing link to 3 dreamworld design spaces. So take the red pill and follow me down the rabbit hole…

Dream-Scape Design Spaces

Amsterdam design house Tjep. (the period is part of their name) specializes in both product furniture, interior design and everything in between. Their style is a mixture of childlike fantasy and modern minimalism. The above photos are from a Rotterdamn sofa shop called VilaSofa and they wanted to combine the warehouse look with a mixture of fanciful comfort classic designs. I love that it feels warm and inviting due to the childlike elements of the slide and picnic table all while looking very adult and chic.

This next design was done for a restaurant and yet again its focus was to create an environment that would be welcoming to both adults and children.

The trick was to make stylish furniture for the adults that the children can play with, for example bus tables, tunnel benches, play tables and movie houses. Don’t miss the play area to the left in the picture above.

Pop colors in a playful space! What more could you ask for?! The restaurant is called Praq located in Amersfoot. As a color geek I just have to say I love the use of orange and pink, it can be an overwhelming combo but when done correctly as it is here, it is chic and design forward.

Next up is a school…a school! I want to go to this school! Its a ROC professional training school in Apeldoorn and if I went to this school I would never ditch class…ok maybe I would but just to hang out in these awesome areas.

This is a conference room for the Economics department and the look is so industrial and yet airy that it creates such an intriguing atmosphere. For such a playful space it still feels charged with energy, power and creativity.

This is what I think everyone would agree is the most amazing space of all…ok maybe its not the most intriguing design but surely we would all love this in our home. A foosball table with bleachers for fans to cheer their favorite team on. Simple and fun, whats not to love?

80s Nostalgic Furniture

When I was growing up one of my favorite candies was those little button candies.

They all taste the same….sugar…and when you ate them you always got little bits of paper in your mouth too. I was a weird kid.

Anywho the design wizards at Jellio have made a bench that looks like a strip of those deliciously papery button candies. Behold, the Button Bench!

The buttons are rubber and squish down when you sit on them then pop back up after you stand up. The price to own this colorful piece of nostalgia? $1,400….just a wee bit more that the $1 it costs for a bunch of sheets of button candies.

Heres a few more awesome 80s nostalgia pieces from Jellio.

Rubiks Cube Table

Barrel of Monkeys Mirror

ViewMaster Mirror

The mirror contains slots to put your own pictures in!

Gumball Clock

Made from actual gumball and capsule vending machines they tell time AND dispense treats!

LiteBrite Table

Light table with removable pegs so you can rearrange into any design! Get awesome time!

Slider Wall Art

This was always one of my favorite toys as a kid…I think its because my optometrist always gave me one of these after my appointments when I was a child and I would play with it on the car ride home. Hell I still play the digital version on my computer all the time! Now I can get a giant one on my wall! Bonus, they do customized ones!

In Soviet Latvia, Design Makes You!

Living in San Francisco, Ive become accustomed to the fact that space is a luxury so organizing your apartment to maximize the space is key. Latvian designer Stanislav Katz who I partially love just for being Latvian, but mostly love for his incredibly stylish and practical designs. My favorite which is this amazing lounge bookshelf combo that would be just incredible in any SoMa loft.

Not much wider than a full Ikea Billy bookshelf, this painfully hip combo ozes with style. Bonus points for the hot pink and black color combo…its my weakness.

Bomb lamps…just let that sink in for a second. how awesome would it be to have a series of these hanging from your ceiling?! Pretty damn awesome thats for sure! Again, so painfully hip my belt turned white reading looking at them.

A clock inspired by a paper fan. Again so hip it hurts.

Ultra bonus points because the website’s tag is “In Soviet Latvia, Design Makes You!”

Get on with your bad Latvian self Stanislav!
