DIY LOLcat purse

Ok ok I know LOLcats are sooooooo last season but you still cant help but love this amazing DIY project. Forwarded to me by my good friend Stephanie is this amazing craft project from Alexa Westerfield a.k.a. Swelldesigner.

LOLcat Purse

All the supplies you need to make this lunch box type purse can be purchased at just about any craft store and if you dont have a photo quality printer you can go to Walgreens or Kinkos and get a photo quality print for pretty cheap. Follow these step by step instructions and in a matter of hours you can rock out with your geek out!

Also if you feel the LOLcat trend is soooo last week you can shove any other image you like on there, think about it…a level from your favorite game, your favorite movie or maybe just you and your friends. Here are some Im considering…

Obama + Aretha Hat = FIEEEEEEEEEEERCE

What better way to highlight my epic crush on Edward James Olmos aka Commander Adama than with a sparkly purse

Master Chief in a thong…just because it would be funny and good conversation starter

This is the front runner just because it combines two of my favorite things…Tecate and boobies.

Anyone have any ideas for what they would put on their purse?

Tetris kitchen

Ive written about Tetris home geekery before (here and here) but I think Ive finally found the ultimate in Tetris domestic goodness. Behold….

Tetris Kitchen

Maybe this has been posted around the net before so pardon me if this is a late pass..but its new to me! Besides, something this awesome needs reposting. Inspired by the classic shapes of Tetris and the need for efficient clean space, designer June He created this geometric masterpiece. The kitchen is basically transformed into a jewelry box in which all the pieces pull out into place and hide away so it looks like a sleek tile wall when not in use.

The tiles could also be changed color wise to reflect whatever scheme you would like. I for one and such a fan of this because living in an urban area like San Francisco, space becomes a luxury…yet at the same time I am unwilling to give up a large kitchen in order to obtain more living room space. This design allows for both kitchen space and open room all with an effortlessly cool and minimalist appeal. Unfortunately this design is still in prototype, but when I hit the lottery and built my dream flat, you can bet my kitchen will look like this.

Is that a faucet or are you just happy to see me…

Ok lame I know…but when you say someting like “wow look at that faucet” or “that is an amazing faucet” it just kind of sort of ends up sounding like a pick up line in a weird wall. Well my friend Kaitlin pointed me in the direction of the most amazing bathroom faucet today.

Triflow Taps by Zaha Hadid

The movement and flow of water itself is the inspiration behind this gorgeous piece of bathroom sinkery. The tap, spout and body are a seamless and organic shape.

“Triflow’s taps feature a unique three-way technology that allows filtered water to be delivered through a dedicated waterway, separate from the hot and cold water streams. These two streams are controlled by the handle, while the filtered water is activated by a touch-sensitive button.”

All I can really say is…DO WANT!

Rapid beverage chiller

While trolling about the internet today I came across this product…

The Cooper Cooler HC01-A Rapid Beverage Chiller

This contraption boasts the ability to take a room temperature can of juice, beer, soda or even a bottle of wine and make it a thirst quenching 44 degrees in just a matter of minutes. The product costs about $50 on sale at Amazon which to me is a bit pricey for the product. However there have been many times (like Tuesday night) where I just served dinner only to realize that I forgot to chill the bottle of white wine. Lucky for me my freezer is a beast and can chill things about twice as fast as most other freezers. Still, I can definitely see the appeal of this product especially for parties and entertaining. I think I’ll wait until it drops another $20 before I consider picking it up thought.

If you too dont feel like shelling out $50 for a chilled beverage, check out this episode of one of my favorite shows, Mythbusters, where they look into myths about how to rapidly chill a 6-pack. If you feel like wasting your fire extinguisher (those things are expensive to refill) you can chill a beer in a matter of seconds by blasting it with the extinguisher.

Ice Cream Maker Tales: Pt. 1

Sorry about the long delay between posts, it was a busy holiday season with lots of traveling to see families. But Im back in the bay now and have tons of toys and recipes to share.

For Christmas my aunt gave Cesar and I a $25 gift certificate to Cost Plus World Market, one of my favorite stores. Last night we were shopping looking for something to purchase for our kitchen…we thought about knives, pestals, grinders and almost settled on a really nice mandolin slicer. Then I happened to glance at a bottom shelf and saw a lone box containing a Cuisinart Classic Frozen Yogurt-Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker! AN ICE CREAM MAKER!!! Best of all, it was one of the ones that you dont need salt, ice or to crank a handle like the one I had growing up. I began salivating thinking of all the ice cream and frozen yogurt recipes I have that I have been dying to try out (including a Bacon Maple Ice Cream). It was a tough decision, a mandolin slicer is a more practical appliance…but an ice cream maker is more awesome. Ultimately we went with the ice cream maker because it was something we would never go out and buy if we didnt have a gift card…we’ll get a mandolin slicer eventually.

One of the most awesome things about the ice cream maker is that it boasted to make ice cream in about 20-30 minutes! That meant we could make ice cream that night! We ran to the Safeway and picked up some non-fat vanilla yogurt and black berries to make Black Berry Frozen Yogurt!

We arrived at our friend Rob’s house and presented him with our new prize and the plan to make frozen yogurt that night. Unfortunately my failure to ever read directions completely bit me in the ass and we realized that in order to make the ice cream we had to freeze part of the maker…which would take 6 to 22 hours! But of course we were not so easily swayed and decided to see if we could freeze it in less time (it was about 8:30 at night and we didnt want to be making frozen yogurt at 3am). We filled a bowl with ice water and put the ice cream maker in that and filled the middle with ice shoved it in the back of the freezer and prayed.

At around 1 am we checked, still not done so we decided to give it another hour…unfortunately the ice cream maker was not frozen solid but we decided to see if it would work anyways. We were dead set on having frozen yogurt that night and turning back or waiting till the next day was not an option. We set up the machine and poured the mixture in and waited. We even decided to put the machine outside so it would be cooler! At 30 minutes the yogurt had expanded properly but was still very liquidy so we decided to let it sit out for another 20 minutes to see if it would firm up. Around 3 am we turned it off realizing that it wasnt going to firm up any more so we pulled it out…what we had created was actually more liquid than when it started, we had effectively created a yogurt soup of sorts.

We stared dumbfounded and defeated at our blackberry yogurt soup, it was an abomination.
“This is what we get for toying with nature! You cannot beat the Cuisinart Classic Frozen Yogurt-Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker! No one can!”
Rob slammed his fist down in the counter and said, “No! We cannot be defeated! We cannot let this thing beat us! We’re going to Safeway and getting ice cream and putting this stuff on top of it.”

So we jumped in the car and drove off in search of a 24 hour Safeway and ice cream to exact our revenge on the ice cream maker. We got back to Rob’s place at around 4:00 am and dumped out yogurt soup abomination on the vanilla yogurt and enjoyed our small victory in eating a hodgepodged blackberry frozen yogurt. We still couldnt help but feel defeated so we cleaned off the ice cream maker and decided to regroup the following day.

After poppping the maker into my freezer for about 3 hours it already firmed up (our fridge/freezer is super powered) so we’re ready for round two tonight. We will attempt to make Banana and Dark Chocolate Chip Frozen Yogurt…I’ll report back on that once we’ve completed it but so far we are right on track!

Moral of the story is, dont mess with the Cuisinart Classic Frozen Yogurt-Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker…it will always win. If it says to wait until the bin is fully frozen you wait…or you will only be left with heartache and yogurt soup (and not the good kind from Greece).

AK Ice Tray

What is my obsession with ice cube trays? I’ve already blogged about the Gin and Titonic ice cube tray but now my friend has given me a new tray to drool over.

AK Ice Tray

“Freshen up that killer drink with a round from the Bullet Ice Tray! Pour some water into the AK Ice Tray, freeze then enjoy your beverage with a few ice cold Bullets from an AK-47 Gun. Maybe you got an ‘acquaintance’ coming around for a drink, put a few AK ice bullet rounds in and maybe then he will take you serious!”

So for those of you looking to gangstafy your drink unload a clip of these ice bullets. You can preorder them now and they go on sale November 3rd.

Wake up n’ shoot something!

Namco Bandai will release a new alarm clock this November which requires the user to shoot a target in order to turn the alarm off.

Behold the Gun O’Clock

“When the alarm stars ringing, you have to get up, grab your gun, and start shooting. Every time you pull the trigger and miss, you’ll feel the blowback—if you hit the target, the alarm will stop and you can wake up refreshed and satisfied. You can choose from Normal or Hard mode—the latter requires you to hit the target five times.” LISA KATAYAMA from Tokyo Mango

I personally like the idea of waking up and being presented with a challenge…although I wonder if it has a sleep mode since personally I require hitting snooze at least 5 times before actually waking up.

On a side note, I love the illustrations that come with the press release

That guy is very happy to be awake.
