Super Marios Bros. Evening Wear!

We’ve all the seen the plethora of awesome and adorable Super Mario themed clothing, but how about some fancy runway worth evening wear?

Craftster user montyfull designed these back in 2007 for her senior show for design school and Ive got to say Im quite impressed with the mix of chic silhouettes and the playfulness of the Mario theme.

A nintendo garter?! How hot is that?!

The Toads have never looked more stylish!

A mighty couture bob-omb dress.

A front shot of the magnificent Mario dress which features a handmade head applique which according to montyfull took over 80 hours of work! She calls it her opus….and rightfully so!

As an added bonus, she took a 1-up mushroom appliqué off one of the dresses and attached it to her graduation cap…certainly fitting ;)

On the thread on craftster where montyfull posted these awesome pictures, she had this to say…

“So I’m a fashion major. Graduated in 2007, and just NOW got around to uploading pics of my stuff! I’m an avid gamer for life. Shooters, RPGs, PC, nintendo, Xbox… I’ll play anything if I can afford it. I also don’t like to take myself too seriously, so I decided that my senior collection was going to be mario eveningwear. Ya know, lots of sequins, duchess satin, chiffon, coupled with the crazy icons we know and love.”

Tetris scarf

For a while now Ive been wanting to make a Tetris scarf but have been too lazy to chart up a pattern and also have been stumped on how to make it look good from the front and back since Intarnsia knitting looks a mess from behind. Low and behold, someone on Craftster solved the problem with a simple solution….making it double sided.

Tetris Scarf

I love that it just looks like a mosaic pattern at first glance but then you recognize the shapes and instantly know what the scarf is. Truly chic and geek ;)

The woman made the pattern and had her mom knit it up and unfortunately she doesnt seem to have posted the pattern, but another poster linked to a Tetris chart for making a baby blanket that you could easily adapt into a scarf. You can download that here.

Here you can see how wide the scarf is before its doubled over. A great way to make the scarf visually appealing from all sides!

CO-OP Recipes Part 1: Quick N’ Easy Spinach Rice

So I was watching the latest episode of CO-OP (which if you haven’t watched yet you totally should for the latest and best video game coverage) from the boys at Area5 Media and I noticed they used some of my leftovers for the “romantic” dinner scene between Ryan and Kim. I decided I might as well post up the recipes for you all to enjoy, they are quick and easy to prepare, trust me any gamer guy trying to swoon his girl could whip these up in a jiffy no matter how limited their cooking skills. I’ll start off with the rice they were eating since that one is by far the quickest and simplest to prepare.

Quick N’ Easy Spinach Rice

Ingredients

  • 1 cup White medium grain rice or medium grain brown rice
  • 1 and 2/3 cups water (or whatever the ratio your rice requires but take out a little since the frozen spinach will add liquid)
  • 2 table spoons chicken bullion
  • 1 cup frozen spinach
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Put the rice in a pot or rice cooker (rice cookers make the perfect pot of rice every time so I highly recommend picking one up) and add whatever the ratio of water to rice that the rice specifies BUT make sure to take about a 1/4 to 1/3 cup of water out since the frozen spinach will add some liquid. After the water comes to a boil add in the chicken bullion and stir around until dissolved. Next add a cup of frozen spinach, frozen spinach is one of the few frozen veggies I love. Its great to keep on hand for quick pasta and rice dishes because it adds a zap of flavor and a boost of vitamins and protein for a well balanced meal. Recover the rice and let it cook until all the water is dissolved and the rice is nice and fluffy. If the rice looks like its not moist enough add in a little extra water. Unfortunately my measurements arent exact because the water content in frozen spinach varies bag to bag. When the rice is done stir it up to mix the spinach in thoroughly and add salt and pepper to taste.

Serves two for a quick romantic dinner or 3 for an award third wheel dinner.

I’ll post up the recipe for the Citrus Curry Noodles they where eating shortly (I had a little too much citrus in that batch so I need to perfect it before releasing the recipe out into the world.)

Best Worst Video Game Ornaments

So today I got in the holiday spirit and purchased a mini hot pink sparkly Christmas tree and decorated it with some brightly colored stars. I couldnt help but wonder if there were some video game ornaments I could purchase for it….sadly the ornaments I found online we less than awesome. Here are my 5 Best Worst Video Game Ornaments (in no particular order).

Personalized Clay Gamer Ornaments

Words cannot describe how truly hideous these things are. Im not sure what kind of controller these kids are playing with but I can only imagine that it is the result of some NES controller developing a malignant tumor. That being said these kids look like they have face tumors. I dub this the tumor ornament!

Gamer Ball

Im not going to even write anything for this one myself…rather I will just copy the description from the site becuase it is far more funny than anything I could ever write.

“this 3″ ornament features several tongue-in-cheek phrases as well as the title Video Gamer printed in ravishing red along a smooth pearl surface.
Phrases include:
I’m taking it to the next level
Don’t worry… I have extra lives
My thumbs are in great shape
My goal… 100% completion
I wish life had cheat codes
Eat… Sleep… Play games… Repeat”

I Am A Video Game Champion

I love cafepress…it allows anyone with a photo editing program to make truly hideous creation that no one would want to purchase. Now parents everywhere can embarrass and further alienate their 13 year old level 75 Mage.

Video Game Master! Personalized Christmas Ornament

Little Edward here is so good at games he can play them with his eyes closed! Use the force Edward! The force!

Got Game?

Ok its almost too easy to make fun of cafepress items…its like shooting fish in a barrel. But I just couldn’t pass this one up, especially with the unlicensed Xbox rings rip off. I do give them points for their amazing Want To Play Scrabble Moose though.

Thankfully during my search I did stumble across a few adorably cute video game ornaments…but you’ll have to wait till tomorrow for those ;)
